The Green Triangle region produces about 30% of the softwood plantation wood harvested

Forest products trade 2005-06

  • Export earnings by the Australian forest and wood products sector increased by 21 million to $2.11 billion
  • Trade to Japan, New Zealand and China represented $1.4 billion
  • Imports fell by $86 million, to $4.021 billion
  • Imports came predominantly from New Zealand, Indonesia, USA and Finland
  • Making a net trade deficit of $1.91 billion
  • Woodchip exports totalled $839 million
  • Pulp and paper imports totaled $2.84 billion
  • An almost doubling in the value of recovered paper exports to $97 million
  • Paper manufactures, paper and paperboard, and wood based panel imports contributed strongly to the increase in the value of forest product imports in 2004-05
